We are searching for an outgoing, organized and motivated individual who can foster positive public relations in the support of the mission and values of Medford Leas.

The Director of Development and Community Relations serves as the primary fundraiser for Medford Leas. This position is responsible for developing plans and implementing a comprehensive fundraising program; provides leadership and coordination in solicitation, cultivation and stewardship of donors and assists with gift planning;* serves as the primary staff representative on the Board of Trustees Development Committee;* develops, plans and implements program which demonstrate our public benefit and contributions to larger Medford Leas community.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Plans and executes an annual fundraising plan
  • Plans and conducts public relations for Medford Leas by keeping Medford Leas in the public eye in a positive manner
  • Provide active leadership in the identification, solicitation, cultivation and stewardship of donors and donor prospects, to include individuals, corporations, and foundations
  • Reviews prospect research and develops prospecting strategies
  • Identifies grant opportunities and prepares grant applications, case statements, major gift proposals, press releases and other communication materials, including social media
  • Supervises and coordinates the work of resident volunteers and staff, as appropriate
  • Develops and manages budgets for fundraising and community relations activities
  • Establishes and develops relationships between Medford Leas and the local community
  • Represent ML at professional and community meetings
  • Serves as liaison and contact with industry associations, local communities, county, state and national organizations, Quaker community, affinity groups and professional associations
  • Serve as a liaison between residents, outside groups and staff
  • Develops and implements events that promote the Arboretum
  • Continue to work with all constituencies towards bringing about a culture of inclusion and diversity amongst all components of the community
  • Oversees preparation of policy and procedural manuals as they relate to development and community relations
  • Active member of ML’s Leadership Team
  • Serves and provides leadership on various internal committees and projects, as assigned
  • Acts as liaison for projects concerning interior design, including art work

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in fundraising, community relations, marketing, business or sales
  • A minimum of five years related experience with progressive managerial responsibilities
  • Excellent communication, presentation, organizational and interpersonal skills required, along with strong analytical and decision-making ability
  • Experience in healthcare or senior living administration (preferred)

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  • For up to 95% of the time, must be able to move about freely to respond to situations requiring lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, standing, walking, sitting, accessing, and using a computer, telephone, paper cutter, copier, postage meter, and fax machine; must be able to see, hear, read, write, and speak English
  • The work environment includes the campus of Medford Leas and surrounding communities. Travel as required by the nature of the job description.
